Morning Lecture - 2nd Jan - 9.15 to 10.15 AM
Why is music the most important activity we should be giving our children everyday?
Workshop 1
MOOD OF THE FIFTH AND PENTATONIC MUSIC - Steiner advises us to surround kindergarten and class 1 and 2 children with mood of the fifth and pentatonic songs. What do these terms really mean? How can we tell if a song is mood of the fifth or pentatonic ? How can we create our own mood of the fifth or pentatonic songs?
Workshop 2
ROUNDS -Rounds are the children’s entry into harmony in music, in class 3. We will learn to sing many rounds, both short and longer, from many cultures and epochs, and we will learn the three different ways to finish a round well.
Workshop 3
PLAYING THE RECORDER - Bring your descant or soprano recorder, and any other recorders you might have. I will lend interested people treble or alto recorders, and we will learn how to teach children the basics of music notation.

Working, through movement, with strength of will, warmth of feeling and the light of thinking - Movement is such an effective and valuable learning medium for children, helping them develop their sense of balance and coordination; their relationship to space; their sense for geometry in space; their dexterity and agility; social skill through interacting in a coordinated and trusting way with each other. For each of the movement workshops we will explore movement drawn largely from the broad Eurythmy context and fitting for the specific age group, that can be led by class teachers or others who wish to support the children in this way.
Workshop 1
Eurythmy based movement for teachers: Kindergarten- Class two : In these workshops we will work with songs, rhymes, verses, story elements, marrying them with movement in a lively and engaging way, suitable for the specific age group. Participants are encouraged to bring texts/ songs of their own to work with.
Workshop 2
Eurythmy based movement for teachers: Class 3-6 - In these workshops we will work with songs, rhymes, verses, story elements, marrying them with movement in a lively and engaging way, suitable for the specific age group. Participants are encouraged to bring texts/ songs of their own to work with.
Workshop 3
Eurythmy based movement for teachers: Eurythmy immersion with some pedagogical insights - only for participants who were part of the intensives, are competent in movement and interested in seriously developing their capacities further. In these workshops we will work with songs, rhymes, verses, story elements, marrying them with movement in a lively and engaging way, suitable for the specific age group. Meditative exercises for a Waldorf teacher
Workshop 1
Understanding physical growth and soul - spiritual growth of the human being. Transforming the lesson to make it a nourishment for the growing human being. Approaching Anthroposophic ideas as living forces which require the teacher to be inwardly active - taking care not to leave room for 'Cosmic parochialism' or 'superstition', as Steiner warns in his lecture series called ' Essentials of Education'. The role of 'Imangination' in spiritualising the educational task.
Workshop 2
Using the spoken word to bring healing and transformation in the class room. Speech in all its manifestations in education - teacher's self preparatory work towards the task.
